"because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them." Romans 1:19
If a person believes the Bible to be God's word, then they have no reasons to believe that an atheist actually exists because God says in His word that He has made Himself evident within all men. There are men (and women) who say in their heart, 'There is no God', and take great strides at convincing others (particularly those who believe in God) that there is no evidence of God.
But in reality, God makes Himself known within all men, but especially to believers. And what I mean by this is that before I accepted Christ as my Savior, I was aware of God but I had no access to Him. There was this vague knowledge of Him, if you will, or the sense that He exists, but I had no personal relationship with Him...until I believed in His Son Jesus Christ. Then I knew for sure that He is real, and I knew my sins were forgiven also. Words can not sufficiently describe the assurance of forgiveness through Him or the presence of His Spirit living inside of you, revealing God's thoughts and His truths (for only the spirit of a man knows the thoughts of that man, likewise, only the Spirit of God can knowthe thoughts of God, for He searches the mind of God.) The Holy Spirit is given as a pledge or promise from God in reference to every believer's inheritance and adoption as sons. It is God's desire for no man to perish, but for all to come to repentance; therefore, He has invited all men and/or women to turn from evil and believe in His Son, Jesus Christ for salvation and deliverance from the devil's domain and walk in newness of life.
It's funny how believing in Christ changes a person from the inside where sin has no power over them any more and He gives us the power to say "no" to sin. Sin is longer "fun" or enjoyable to a Christian (evidence also of their salvation). I have stumbled many times in the past only to find that when I chose to follow after the desires of the flesh, rather than the Spirit, I am unsatisfied and unhappy (for these two are in opposition against each other...which is also some more evidence of a person's salvation in Christ, for an unbeliever has only one nature..and that is the nature of the flesh)
God makes Himself evident within all men because of His compassion and mercy towards all men...But remember this; if you hear His voice do not harden your heart..for He is also righteous in all His ways..Jesus paid the price for the sins of the whole world (Behold, the Lamb of God!) But you must believe in Him through faith before you are justified in Him..."Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 5:1
"There is no other name given under heaven by which men must be saved"...It's all about the choices we make...we have the knowledge and God will in no wise (or in no way) cast any man out who comes to Him...and "whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Do not believe that you must clean up your life on your own before you can come to Christ..come just as you are..because a person can never clean up their life enough on their own to be accepted by God...you come to Jesus and He will clean you up all at once..on the inside...the outside will come later..sometimes it takes a lifetime to get the outside cleaned up..for many of us...
